Custom calibrations are crafted by industry experts, ensuring top-notch performance.
The PCM location varies by vehicle model:
- 1992–2002 F150: Passenger side firewall (under the hood).
- 1994½–1997 F250-550: Driver side firewall (accessible under the hood).
- 1999–2003 F250-550: Driver side firewall (under the dash).
- 1997–2002 E-Series: Driver side firewall (between the “doghouse” and master cylinder).
The Box code is a visual identifier for the calibration originally programmed into your PCM, while the Hex code is the actual file name for the calibration. HydraFlash uses Hex codes to select and apply calibrations.
You can locate your Hex code using the Box/Hex conversion utility in the HydraFlash tool. Simply enter your Box code, and the tool will provide the corresponding Hex code and any recommended calibrations.
Tune options are organized by Hex code. Use the Hex code provided by the Box/Hex Conversion tool and select calibrations based on power level and intended use (e.g., towing, daily driving, or racing).
This can occur if the selected calibration is less common or has been replaced by another. Ensure you're using the recommended Hex code from the Box/Hex Conversion tool. For additional tunes, contact our support team.
HydraFlash is natively compatible with Mac. It can be downloaded here.
Yes! Many tuners can provide custom files for the Hydra chip. These files can be downloaded locally and programmed using HydraFlash.

Yes, the Hydra chip can be programmed with or without PATS support using the HydraFlash tool. A green indicator means PATS is enabled, while a red indicator means it is disabled.
The Hydra chip has 17 positions, but two are permanently programmed: "00" (Stock/Diagnostics) and "nS" (No Start). The remaining 15 spots can be customized with your preferred tunes.
No, the chip can function with just the default positions or any combination of programmed slots. Blank slots are simply skipped on the digital selector.
This is often due to insufficient cleaning of the PCM connector. Remove the PCM, clean the connector thoroughly (including both sides), and reinstall. Watch this instructional video for guidance.
This issue is usually caused by mismatched calibrations. Ensure that all tunes are based on the same calibration strategy to avoid stalling when switching levels.
It's not required, but ensure the ignition key is removed to avoid permanent PCM or chip damage. Keeping the key in your pocket is a safe practice during installation.
The Hydra chip will protrude slightly. Modify the case by cutting a notch or using zip ties to secure the case without putting pressure on the chip to avoid damage.
Select the "Valve Body" version of your desired tune. These calibrations maintain normal shift points and power output without affecting shift pressure or timing.
This indicates a connection issue between the Hydra chip and PCM. Remove the PCM, clean the connector thoroughly, and retry.
Ensure the ribbon cable is fully seated and connected correctly. The cable should run over the top of the chip and out the rear of the digital selector switch.
